Here, the unheard and unseen happen on the screen - TROPICAL MALADY is a cinematographic borderline experience in the jungle, in an animistic intermediate realm of humans, animals and nature. The film opens with two young men who are in love, going to karaoke bars and the movies until one suddenly disappears. Did he turn into a rabid monster in line with an ancient Thai legend? After a long fade to black, the second film begins, leading the viewer into the jungle, whose nocturnal images and particularly sounds are dominant from now on. One surrenders gladly to the hypnotic pull of the soundtrack, reflecting in the eye of a huge wildcat and staring spellbound at a tree illuminated by fireflies. (bik)
